This approach worked for us, but I can only speak to our context: a B2B distribution business with predictable ordering patterns and an engineering team that reviews every application. If you're a one-person maintenance operation with a limited vendor list, the calculus might be different. I understand that.

But the principle stays the same. When a supplier says "this isn't what we do—here's who does it better," they're demonstrating self-awareness and integrity. That's the kind of partner I want in a control system's critical path.

For our specs, that means Danfoss pressure switch products for refrigeration and HVAC applications where repeatability and reliability matter. Not because Danfoss is the only brand that works—that would be the same overgeneralizing I've been criticizing. But because in this category, the specialist's depth beats the generalist's breadth every single time. And I've got 18,000 units a year of inspection data to back that up.
