After reviewing every control component order I've placed over the last six years—roughly $180,000 in switches, relays, and sensors—I can say this plainly: for most industrial applications, the Danfoss pressure switch is the lowest total-cost option, even when it isn't the lowest ticket price. I standardize on the KP line for HVAC and industrial refrigeration, the RT line for heavy-duty jobs, and the ACB line when panel space is tight.
If you're in a hurry, here's the short version: choose a Danfoss KP pressure switch for standard adjustable setpoints; choose RT for high-vibration or wide-range applications; and look at the Danfoss ACB pressure switch when you need a compact unit. Then check the filter situation before you set anything. An upgraded air filter or a neglected oil filter will make any pressure switch look bad.

I'm a procurement manager at a mid-sized industrial services contractor. We maintain refrigeration systems, air compressors, and process equipment for about 40 clients. In 2019, I started logging every control component quote, invoice, and failure in a spreadsheet. The Danfoss KP Pressure Switch: The Industrial Workhorse
Most of our volume is in the KP series. The Danfoss KP pressure switch is the industrial workhorse for a reason. The low-pressure versions start below atmospheric pressure, and the high-pressure versions go up to 32 bar in a compact format, according to Danfoss's 2024 KP series datasheet. We use KP1 and KP15 for low-pressure and oil-differential protection, KP35 for high-pressure cutout, and KP36 for differential-pressure applications.
What makes the KP line good for procurement is that the product family covers so many jobs with the same physical format. Once your technician knows how to wire a KP15, they know how to handle a KP35. Fewer part numbers to stock, fewer wiring diagrams to print, fewer mistakes.
When the Job Needs the RT Series
The RT series is a different animal. When a switch sits on a reciprocating compressor that vibrates like a washing machine, I don't want a small plastic housing. I want the cast housing and heavier snap action of an RT. Our standard part is the RT116 for air compressor pressure control. It's denser, easier to adjust with a gloved hand, and the one I can hand to a plant operator with confidence.
The Danfoss ACB Pressure Switch: The Middle Child
The Danfoss ACB pressure switch is the overlooked middle child. It's compact, reliable, and often less expensive than the RT series, but with an enclosure that fits cleaner industrial environments. I use it in air-conditioning cabinets, packaging lines, and any spot where panel space is tight. It is not a replacement for the RT's heavy housing, and I don't treat it as one. If you're designing a panel and the drawing leaves less than a fist-width for the pressure switch, ACB is worth checking before you force a bigger switch into a tight space.
What Is an Oil Filter—and Why Should a Pressure Switch Buyer Care?
You landed here partly because of the "oil filter" question. Let's answer it directly. An oil filter removes particles from oil in a compressor, engine, or hydraulic system. In an industrial compressor, the oil filter directly affects the pressure switch that monitors the oil circuit. If the filter starts clogging, the pressure drop across it rises. A properly set Danfoss pressure switch will trip before lack of lubrication damages the compressor. That's a feature, not a bug.
The automotive analogy gets tired in our shop. An F250 oil filter is a spin-on canister you replace every few thousand miles. An industrial oil filter is the same broad idea but with higher consequences. If you're replacing only the pressure switch and not the oil filter, you're treating the symptom. I've seen more than one service call end with a switch that was actually fine and a filter that was full of the same debris the customer thought they'd solved by replacing the switch.
Similarly, understand what an upgraded air filter actually changes before you order one. An upgraded air filter with finer media can reduce compressor wear, but it can also increase the pressure drop across the filter when it's clean. If your Danfoss differential pressure switch reads across the air filter, set the alarm point with the dirty filter in mind, not the clean filter's marketing claim. Otherwise, the switch will trip early, and you'll blame the switch. The real problem is the filter spec.
Pay for Certainty When Everything Else Is Uncertain
I mentioned the spreadsheets. Let me give you one more number. In Q2 2024, we paid $400 in same-day freight to get a replacement pressure switch to a plant in the middle of a production window. The switch itself was $85. The downtime was costing roughly $12,000 per day. That $400 was the cheapest insurance I've ever bought. I'd rather explain a rush freight fee in a budget review than explain why I tried to save money on a replacement part while a line was down.
This is the part that doesn't show up on a purchase order. A cheaper switch with "probably" delivery is not comparable to a switch that's in stock at a distributor with a clear wiring diagram. When a plant is down, the difference between maybe and definitely is worth real money.
When Not to Buy a Danfoss Pressure Switch
I'm not going to tell you Danfoss is always the right answer. If you need a continuous pressure reading, buy a pressure transmitter, not a switch. If the switch sits in extreme vibration and you have the budget for an electronic pressure switch with configurable setpoints, that can be a better design. And if you need exactly one switch as a temporary replacement and an off-brand unit is on a branch shelf five minutes away, take it. The total-cost equation works when you're standardizing, stocking spares, or putting reliability ahead of the lowest possible invoice. It doesn't apply to every single emergency.
For our operation, the question isn't "can we find a cheaper pressure switch?" It's "how much does it cost when the switch doesn't behave as documented?" In my spreadsheet, the answer is clear. Standardize on the Danfoss pressure switch, treat the filter as part of the system, and pay for certainty when everything else is uncertain.
